Where did Vainio Clothing originate?
The story of Vainio Clothing is beautiful, but its beginning was somewhat bittersweet. Our current online store was opened in 2023 under our company's original name, Leggo Oy. After the first year of sales, our products were found to be excellent, and our customers were very satisfied. However, not everyone was...
An unnamed Danish toy giant deemed that Leggo was too close to their name and a threat to their business. Thus, after some deliberation, Leggo changed its name in autumn 2024 to Vainio Clothing Oy.
The idea of sustainable children's clothing
The idea for Vainio was born in 2021 when I heard that a 4-year-old relative's son had been bought his fourth pair of sweatpants within a month because the previous ones had worn out from everyday play, and this was frustrating.
Parents buy expensive, foreign-made clothes – and yet they end up in the trash prematurely.
I decided that something needed to be done.
Parents need more durable children's clothes that also have resale value.
Every Vainio product reduces textile waste and supports Finnish labor.
Finnish children's clothes from Pyhtää
All Vainio Clothing products are designed and manufactured in Finland, in our hometown of Pyhtää. For us, domestic origin is not just a marketing slogan, but a practical action. Our products are handmade in Finland, and we genuinely support Finnish labor.
That's why we don't need to preach about values and responsibility – our actions speak for themselves.
Unlike many children's clothing brands, Vainio Clothing is backed by a team of three men. Our founder, Otto Vainio, wanted to build a company with people close to him and invited his best friends to join.
And what could be better than designing comfortable, practical, and durable children's clothes for their own – and your – children.
Well, maybe a thousand other things… but this is fun too!
Vainio's story is just beginning
The Vainio story has only just begun!
Our product family is constantly growing, and our goal is to develop even better Finnish children's clothes that stand the test of time and use.
This time – dads got it.
